There is a new class of application starting to show up more recently,
that of web-type applications which are available for download to be run "offline" on the desktop.
(Nod to the submitter who has pointing out several to me.)
They are often composed from a combination of a scripting language and JavaScript,
and so make use of both the OS and browsers.
This is all fine, and an interesting movement correlating to the rise of high-quality web apps.
But the question for this listing is: should they be listed here?

In other news, I ended up adding a new application type, "Air,"
which indicates that these are programs that run atop of Adobe's new app platform.
The Mac implementation of Air is itself a Cocoa environment,
but I'll have to see if these kinds of apps really do constitute a new kind of app worth tracking or not.
It'll be interesting to see how much traction this platform grabs.

Ok, after a long break, I'm going to start a summer revamp and continue on with new apps again.
A great big thanks to Mark F. for the contribution! Looks great. Going to make it my summer project.
5/29 Going to see if I can get through the submissions before heading off for the WWDC.
4/30 Wow, Papers got mentioned in the May 2008 issue of Nature. Congrats.
4/19 I've fallen behind quite a bit on the new submissions. I'll hop on that this weekend. I've gotten fairly busy these days, and I'm working on a way to make this listing a public project that I will happily host, but which others can freely contribute to whenever they feel like it. (discuss)
3/19 The tagline for MonsterText cracks me up: "...a text editor that gives you the features you need, not the features you want."
